Why KAAL?
Nepal is rich in cultural heritage, and lots of folk tales have been originated from here. There are lots of folk tales that are related to our culture and its heritage. The story of Kaal Bhairab is one of them. We were discussing about the folk tale of the Kaal Bhairab, then an idea of creating a short film was developed. Thus, the Kaal project started.
The Prime goal of this project is to promote our culture and historic folk tales that has been lost for years.

History and Origin
Once upon a time, there was a underground river brought from Budhanilkantha to the palace of the Malla King. In Nepal Sambat 760 during the period of the King Pratap MAlla, the water was not flowing, as it should be. So, he decided to rebuild it. During the renovation the water supply stopped flowing from the Rani Ban(now Maharajgunj). The crew dug deeper and deeper and found a huge statue of Kaal Bhairab.
Then the King called the highest ranking priests and Tantriks(person with devine power) to awake the god and establish the statue on Basantapur. The statue was established infront of the court(Hanumaandhoka) as the symbol of the law and to decide the truth. The suspects was forced to bow to the feet of the kaal bhairab, and if he tell a lie then he will vomit blood and die on the spot. Later the spell was taken off, but some says that the spell is still there to guard the law.
